CANeW is an independent archaeological project that deals with chronological and spatial data on the Neolithic period in Anatolia, the Aegean and Upper Mesopotamia, from 10,000 to 5000 cal BC. It started out in 2000 as a discussion list on the Neolithic of Central Anatolia (CANeW i.e. "Central Anatolian Neolithic e-Workshop" ; cf. Archives), went trought a Table Ronde in November 2001, that was published six months later (cf. Edition), and from 2001 onwards it developed as an e-project that collects, interprets and diffuses radiocarbon and geoarchaeological data to the scientific community. Our focus on dating received a major boost in the summer of 2005 with Bernhard Weninger from the Cologne 14C Lab inviting CANeW to set up a joint project called the Anatolian Radiocarbon Dating Project (ARDP). Kicking off with the excavation season of 2006, the project will sample material for up to 100 radiocarbon dates from selected key sites in Anatolia for the 10,000-5000 cal BC time span. Following the open mind of the project, feel free to download and use all data, as far as you respect the terms. |
