Step 6 : Table Ronde

On the 23th-24th of November 2001, an International "Table ronde" was organised in Istanbul (Turkey) on "The Neolithic of Central Anatolia, internal developments and external relations during the 9th - 6th millennia cal BC", and lasting for two days.

LOCATION : The Table Ronde took place in the four-star Richmond Hotel , Istiklal Caddesi No. 445. The hotel is located in the Beyoglu district, directly on the famous Istiklal street.

As indicated on the program, the meeting started on Friday 23th at 9:00 AM, in the Capitol conference room of the Richmond Hotel. Posters of the Table Ronde were put in different places of the hotel to guide you, while a team from Istanbul University was in the hall to provide you with the program and all other information.

TABLE RONDE SYSTEM : Apart from the proposed conferences/syntheses, a substantial part of the meeting was dedicated to discussions involving all participants on a 20mn conference / 40mn debate base. All the lectures and the ensuing discussions were taped and subsequently were edited and published within six months, the format much comparable to the one used in Current Anthropology. Everybody in the audience was invited to participate in these debates and thus to contribute to the book.

 MEALS :
During the two days of the Table Ronde, we invited you to have lunch in the Richmond Hotel, together with all lecturers and panel members, for a negociated price of 6 USD per meal (alcohol not included). Tickets were sold in the hall, prior to each meal. As for dinners, everybody was free to discover the various restaurants of Beyoglu.

ACCOMMODATIONS : The "Table ronde" was held in the Richmond Hotel, a 4 stars category (****) hotel with a large conference room, located in the heart of Istanbul, directly on Istiklal Street, close to Taksim Square and all the Research Institutes. The participants were proposed to stay in this hotel for the duration of the conference. An interesting arrangement included a stay for 3 nights/4 days, from Thursday until Sunday, complete with breakfast - all for the price of:
USD 100 for one person in a Double room, USD 200 for two people;
USD 160 for a Single room.

For participants with smaller budgets, we proposed a 3 nights/4 days package in the "Hotel Grand Londres", a historical hotel "de caractère," but with a lower standing and comfort, some five minutes walking removed from the Conference place. The price of the total package, including the 3 nights and breakfast was:
USD 150 for a Double room, thus for two people.
USD 100 for a Single room.

PLANE TICKETS : We tried to get reductions on the flight fares, but it became clear that it is more expensive to buy tickets from Istanbul for the participants coming from abroad, than that the participants buy their tickets themselves 'at home'. When coming from such European countries as France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy or Great Britain, Istanbul is a cheap touristical destination especially in November (low season). We trust that you were able to find plane tickets for about USD 250 - USD 350. Of course, coming from the United States or Japan is more expensive.
